Library Cataloging

I really miss the hand-written catalog cards at the library. I remember so well thinking it was so neat to write my name on the card the was slid in the pouch in the front of a book that I couldn't wait to read, then handing it carefully to librarian. Unfortunately my children will not be able to experience that, but the self-scanners at the checkout are pretty cool too, I guess.

When Matt and I get our gigantic library someday I'll look in to getting this personal library kit. Maybe I could teach my family the art of cataloging.

I'm laughing because I could TOTALLY see you doing this very thing -- and loving it! You MUST do it, Heather. This is SO you! I can just see little Cole coming to you with a book and checking it out -- and you stamping his card. Love this! (My dream has always been to have a library with the big overstuffed chair, and a sliding ladder to go up to the upper level -- to see my first editions.) :)

I, too, loooooved the library pockets/cards in library books as a kid. In fact, I loved it so much, that I alphabetized my own books, made labels on the spine with masking tape (like the labels at the library!) and made cards for the inside to check them out. I made my whole family library cards. And the problem with being the youngest is that nobody ever came to check out my books! Ha!

But I love this set and I think it would be a really fun idea to use the cards for tracking when the book is read. So when your child reads the book, they can write their name on the card and the date they finished it. And then eventually the cards will be filled with little reminders of all the times they were read and by whom.

I'm such a book nerd!

I must admit that I bought a very similar set a couple of years ago and put them inside most of my books. Of course when I loan out books, I totally forget to use it ha.

One day I dream of having a library so large that implementing the Dewey Decimal system is the best way of organization. A girl can dream....

I dream of having a beauty and the beast library with sliding ladder.

Yes! Library catalogue cards! Every so often I find a book at the annual library books sale that has one of these cards in it, and I get so excited to see the little date stamp. I remember filling out my name and classroom number on these in school.

LOVE this!! I want one. (Christmas hint here Natalie)
(If it costs under $20.)

(Heat, did you love imagining the people whose names were written on these cards? Who else has read this book? Is that Amelia J.'s p-nut butter smudge? Or Ralph Emerson's? Maybe it was Renee Runyan . . . who just finished reading this two weeks ago.)

Great find, Heather.

Ah, nostalgia!

The geek in me fondly remembers using these at the libraries I used as a child.

The geek in me now says I should use technology!

With this you can use the built-in camera on your iMac to read the barcodes on your books. It pulls the info from Amazon and populates a database for you! You can loan to friends by adding them from your Address Book and by dragging and dropping the loaned item. It will even send email reminders if you set that up.

Here's mine!
