All in the Family

Spring Lake Trout Farm

Every time we’re all in Utah, my dad likes to take all the grandkids fishing. We have our favorite spot, Spring Lake because it’s close, it’s easy, and it’s fun! Spring Lake is a family-owned trout farm right next to Payson. They provide the poles, bait, and expertise, and all you have to do it catch the fish and pay about $4 per pound. They even gut the suckers for you. It’s awesome. It’s the perfect place to go with little kids because it’s quick and easy.

Want to know my favorite thing about Spring Lake? A 5 year old and 9 year old run the place. Seriously though. They are the cutest little things I’ve ever seen, and they’ve been there every time we go, without fail. They’ll bait you (if you want), they’ll get the net for you when you reel your prize in, they get you a bucket for your fish, and they’ll even help you get knots out of your line. I’ve come to love them (not in a weird way).

I was chatting with one of them and I was asking how long the place has been around. He said that his dad did the same thing when he was their age. It’s been in the family for a long, long time.

Have I sold you on the place? Good.

Water snake. I asked what they do with them after they catch them. One simply replied that the snakes eat the fish, so they throw the snake up on the telephone line to die. Haha! I love it.

  1. Oh, my gosh, Heather. These pictures are AMAZING! First time I haven't gone…sad! I'm just so happy you did. And yeah, I'll bet they didn't even need to gut Cardon's fish! Ha! (Cole's expressions were priceless!) I think you should be a fishing photographer…people will pay like a guide.

  2. Ahh. Fishing with the boys! Great shots Heat.

  3. I am so glad you guys like the Trout Farm. I have fond memories of going there. I am from Payson and my friend Liz's family owns it. I am glad to see it still bringing joy to people!

  4. Thanks for the tip Heather! Alex has actually been asking for a couple weeks to go fishing, and now I know where to take him!

  5. That picture of the "two boys that run the place" reminds me of he movie A River Runs Through It.

  6. My favorite picture is the one with Cole getting ready to touch the fish. Great photography! And I'll bet watching the expert grandpa with the kids was the best part! Priceless memories.
